UPSC CSE Prelims Exam Pattern 2018

  1. The UPSC IAS Question Paper comprises of 2 Papers of each 200 marks.
  2. The Question papers will be of Objective Type i.e. MCQs.
  3. The General Studies Paper II Examination will be a qualifying paper in CSE Prelims exam.
  4. The Civil Services Prelims Exam paper will be set in both Hindi and English.
  5. The Exam duration will be of 2 hours.

UPSC Syllabus CSE Exam 2018 for Prelims

The provided exam pattern helps to know the structure of the UPSC 2018 CSE Prelims and Mains examination. In below sections, we updated the Civil Exam syllabus 2018.

Mode – The UPSC Civil Services Prelims 2018 will be administered offline on June 18.

Number of Papers – UPSC Civil Services Prelims 2018 will have two papers. The Paper-I will be General Studies I (GS I) comprising many sections including Economics, Geography, Political Science, and Science, and the Paper 2 is known as General Studies II (GS II) which will test the aptitude of UPSC IAS aspirants for Civil Services examination. The GS II paper is also called as CSAT (Civil Services Aptitude Test).

Exam Duration – The candidates will be allowed to attempt each of the papers-General Studies I and General Studies II (Civil Services Aptitude Test/ CSAT) in a time duration of two hours each. Moreover, candidates will be given a three hours break in between each of the papers.

Number of Questions – Each of the papers will comprise 200 questions each.

Total Marks – The UPSC Civil Services Prelims exam will carry total marks of 400, where each paper will have an equal share.

Marking Scheme – Union Public Service Commission follows a negative marking policy. Following the marking scheme of UPSC Civil Services Prelims exam 2018, candidates will be awarded 2 marks if attempting a question correctly and one-third of the marks allotted to the question will be deducted from the total scored marks, if the attempt for that question is wrong. Therefore, it means for every incorrect response 0.66 marks will be deducted from the total score. Moreover, no marks will be awarded for any question left un-attempted.

UPSC 2018 Syllabus for Mains

Paper A and Paper B of UPSC Civil Services Mains 2018 are qualifying in nature papers and the score secured in these papers is not considered while counting the candidates’ ranking. However, only those aspirants, who obtain at least 25 percent in Paper A and 25 percent in Paper B, will be taken into consideration while making of rank list on the basis of General Studies and Optional Subjects papers.
